PPD1

For Ppd1 we have had to do a few different tasks.
First of all we had a task of making a Fabric Board,
We took a trip to Bradford Bombay stores and collected some fabric samples.
Then we went round Leeds looking in charity shops , Samuel Taylors and the market.
We was also give a style to follow, We got 360 A/W 2011/2012 where we had to research it to then go find what we needed.
I really enjoyed this task, looking at the final fabric board hung up was satisfying as It looked good.

Secondly We had to create this blog :)
Thirdly We have all been given a 3rd year fashion student to work with, I got a Girl called Jordan, she was really nice and we got on well. She showed me here collection as a Rout A student, this was really interesting to see how she works and what she was doing, rout A is not just about making , its also about advertising, labeling and packaging. Here work had a magazine , packaging, promotional cards, business cards and bags which all had her logo "Detach" on. I did various tasks for her over the 3 weeks , which helped her out massively at this busy time. This all has been educating and a incite into what's to come .

Finally I have had to do a Visual and Verbal Power point presentation, which has to last about 5 mins on things such as
  1. What are my strengths and weaknesses throughout this first year at college?
  2. Skills I want to Improve in Year 2
  3. What has inspired my work this year in terms of subject matter and approaches to work?
A taster of what it looks like.

Creative Design Realisation.

This modular was one of my formatives. The final professional garment was a success I don't have a photograph of the finished product , but I have a flat illustration of it.
Creative Design Realisation:
Evaluation.
In this modular I have adopted a variety of principles and techniques associated with creative and contemporary garment construction and the use of specialist machinery combined with creative pattern cutting and garment construction. I have toughly enjoyed the creative aspect of this modular which has given me a lot more understanding of the topic in hand.
The technical file has been a good experience to create, the work inside will be useful to refer back to in the future. The development has thought me things that will settle me in the basics foundations in the fashion industry.
The making prototype professional garment I had to follow criteria which had Creative darts, a set-in sleeve, a facing, a zip and element of fullness and flair in either the skirt section of the dress or the sleeves of a dress or top. I chose to make a dress which had creative darts, set in sleeves, a facing around the neck, a 24” zip, and an element of fullness and flair in the skirt, the sleeve and the top. This made my dress an A line shape.
This modular has furthered me with my personal development. The learning aspect of the modular which will stick with me for the rest of my life. I have enjoyed all the other aspects of the creative modular, especially pattern cutting and developing; I did not realised there were so many stages to creating a pattern and the final garment .These stages helped my create the exact style I designed my garment to be. I enjoyed adding fullness and flair, I did not realise that the technique was so easy yet so effective. The development stages of creating a pattern where really interesting and even if I came across a problem with my pattern I can refer back to my master draft and find the problem then resolve it. This was the main part of the modular but there where several other things I also learnt, how to fit zips, facings, pockets, sleeves, cuffs, trousers and a bodice. These stages lead me towards the final garment making, but if I hadn’t of learn them then I wouldn’t be able to construct my final dress.
When making my garment, seeing the final outcome made me rather proud how it looked so professional. Also I could link in all the work I have done previously on things such as zips and facings .This garment was made from the basic fabric: calico, It wouldn’t be my preferred fabric of choice, but I may make my dress in my own private study, which will further me in my own personal progress and creative development.
In conclusion this project has been very positive to me. It will set all the foundations for me in garment making and construction. This modular has thought me allot more than I thought it would, It has opened my eyes to the whole subject. I have truly enjoyed it and I am looking forward to using my new skills in other modulars.

Interdisciplinary Research

Working 3 dimensionally really helps the thought process.
Working this way, I was looking at nets, for shapes , i.e cube nets and triangle nets.
This way of working helped me to find my concept which is going to be
"flat pack".
I am hoping to get the most out of this modular, and I am aiming for my highest mark yet.

Drawing Practice , Elective 21st-24th Feb.

Elective
One modular I have done this first year is Drawing Practice, this was separate from "Fashion" and focused on the basics of drawing. This modular really helped me with drawing. I did life drawing which was really challenging but the final outcome was great.
And now I can relate all what I have learnt back into my fashion work.

Drawing Elective Evaluation
In the drawing elective my expectations where to be able to put my ideas into visual ideas, to be able to refer back to the work done in my fashion work and challenge my self to try new things. During the elective I began to understand the language of drawing and how to use them. After a few drawing I started to understand construction when drawing and distances between the things I’m drawing.  Then I started to look the space what I was drawing and measure it accurately, But it wasn’t just about drawing it was about how to make a mark on a paper and how to respond to shape , how to make my work look more three dimensional and use space properly. I found it hard to just make a mark on the paper and not get carried away with drawing, but after a few tries I under stood how this made the shape I wanted.
Using a different types of media, I used a Conti which was a type of chalk/charcoal I used its straight edge to create my lies and help me construct my drawing. It also was easy to create study board with several pictures as it was quick and easy to use; the easel was flexible as I could move it for a different perspective of the inertia. Using different types of paper and different materials gave different effects and shapes. I could use these when drawing fashion illustrations or garments. All these skills were learnt in the first day, I felt like id really improved.
On the second day I conquered life drawing.  After learning the skills the day before I found it easier to create form and shape. When the figure was posed in a distorted way this was challenging to make it look correct this lead to me been more creative and daring when drawing. When the figure made unexpected pose changes, made the final out come look like a path had been created, this was exciting when drawing it and push me to challenge myself even more. I found myself learning new things very quickly due to these unexpected changes.
When using different materials to pencil like charcoal I found my self getting out of the habit of drawing normally I pushed my self to get as much information down on the paper and worked in unfamiliar ways, I structurally progressed and improved when drawing the proportions of the figure.

When drawing a figure in space I found this proportionally challenging, I suggested space, looked at the vanishing point, Arial perspective and the use of light and dark to convey distance a series of sketchbook challenges helped me warm up and then move on to create a bigger drawing, this is were I put all my newly learn skills in to practice. I used accurate measuring to put my figure into its inertia and I think Id come a very long way since day one.

In conclusion I think I met all the expectations I wanted to I pushed myself more than I thought I was going to and I now have a full understanding of drawing and what it’s all about. The Elective was a total success and I will really benefit from it when trying to draw fashion illustrations and garments and construction.
